SAVE HANDMADE! LEARN ABOUT CPSIA!

DID YOU KNOW THAT ON FEBRUARY 10th, BASICALLY ALL SMALL, MEDIUM, MOM AND POP, STAY AT HOME MOMS, AND EVEN SOME LARGE TOY MAKERS WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS?!

Yes, that is right... After Feb. 10th, my Jumbo and Mini Rainbow Crayons will be concidered "toxic" and "dangerous" to kids since I do not have between $500-$2000 to get each crayon style and size tested for lead. This also means that my fiancĂ©'s mother can no longer sell her American Girl Doll clothing, plushies, and other things she makes for kids.

No more craft fairs.... no more natural, handmade toys and educational items for your young ones...just what you can find at WalMart and other big companies (which will go up in price as well). All because of the CPSIA (Consumer Products Safety Improvement Act).

They have no idea what they are doing to "small people" like those on Etsy and small time craft fair sellers. PLEASE CHECK OUT THIS SITE or click on the bear to the left of my blog. COMMENT BELOW AND SPREAD THE NEWS!

This is really sad news.

1. Because I am finally earning a living and making a huge business out of selling my popular Rainbow Crayons.

2. Sooo many people want natural toys that are made by hand and made by REAL people and artists.

3. I will not be having kids for quite some time and want to still be able to buy some of the following products on Etsy . I do not have space to buy tons of kids toys and wait 10 years to have kids to use them....

In 2 months, these wonderful things will be BANNED unless tested for lead (every button, piece, part, style, type...)

I have a friend who is a chemist and I had him test my house for lead (none found!) so if you know a chemist you can ask them to test your products and see about getting certified lead free. Aside from testing I am very sad to hear this news. I was going to work on jewelry for children and I doubt I could have every single thing tested. I guess I will have to keep it to talking about crafts with children in my web log titled She's Crafty http://emilybellamy.blogspot.com/

I really love the things you have featured in this posts.I am so sad for some many small business tha are going to be hit hard becaause they don't have the big bucks to pay for these tests, like corporations do.

this is ridiculous! i would think that each parent realizes the unlikely risks of toxicity in hand made toys when they purchase them.

Hi, I linked to your blog from mine, hope you don't mind. I just want to help get the word out and think you did a WONDERFUL job explaining the implications that this is going to have on us not only as crafters but as consumers.

Yeah I do think there needs to be a way for small businesses to get their items tested so the children stay safe. The problem is coming up with the money right?

I too will be put out of business...what a terrible thing to do to law abiding people. I have thanked the one congressman and 4 senators that voted against this bill...they all see what impact this will have on our economy. China needs to be clamped down on not us!

Thanks for this article! It is really good to know all that.

Thank you for spreading the word to your readers.

that is terrible and scary... just because some people don't have the safety of children in the forefront of their mind, others and probably children suffer...

I really hope this doesn't happen, there's too many wonderful items out there that I don't want to disappear.

Great information. Thanks for reminding us about this.

That seems a little extreme to me, and why the felt alphabet? That doesn't make any sense.

I have a friend who is making a decent income making hair bows. All her supplies are already tested as lead free-but the END product is not. So, she is going to get caught up in this too. It's a shame, I would much rather buy from her than from some mega company whose bow will fall apart in days as it is.

I had no idea this was so bad.
Im in the uk so cannot comprehend what its like! I can only hope someone has a bit of decency and common sense to put a stop to legislation like this!
